OUR HISTORY

Reliable Fence Company has been a household name in the fence business since the 1950’s and we are proud to continue to operate Reliable Fence Co. of Cape Cod as a family-owned business. Back in the 1950’s, Reliable Fence Company was first opened in Norwell, Massachusetts and expanded to Ashland, and Cape Cod, where Reliable Fence Co. of Cape Cod continues to serve Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and southeastern Massachusetts. 

Today, Reliable Fence Co. of Cape Cod is owned and operated by Derrick Pratt and partner Nick Svensson (pictured above). Derrick’s family has long been in the fencing business, dating back to his grandfather Harold Pratt, who worked at the original Reliable Fence Co. location in Norwell as a foreman of the wood fence division, as well as building machinery for the company. Additionally, Derrick’s father Stan Pratt first started working for Reliable in Norwell after he came home from serving in the Army Reserves. Stan transferred to the Cape Cod location of Reliable Fence Co. and it has been a family affair on Cape Cod building and installing commercial and residential fences ever since. 

Stan’s brother-in-law, Ed Crowell, worked with him installing fences on the Cape. Derrick’s sister, Julie, worked in the office out of college. Julie’s husband, Joe, and his two brothers worked for Reliable for a few summers, as well as Derrick’s cousins, Richie and Bubba. Suffice it to say that most of the Pratt family have worked at Reliable Fence Co. of Cape Cod at some point. 

In 1992, Derrick’s partner Nick Svensson started working with his uncle Mike, who began working for Stan in 1978. After Stan’s passing in 2014, Derrick and Nick became partners. Today, Derrick’s wife Adrean works as Office Manager at Reliable Fence Co. of Cape Cod.
